In this xChange Paul Skinner, Founder of MarketingKind, and Emma Ihsan, Joint Head of Corporate Partnerships at Mind, will interview Timothy Wilson, author of Redirect: Changing The Stories We Live By, to explore the inner narratives that truly guide our behaviour and how we can change these narratives across society to achieve positive social outcomes.
Timothy D. Wilson is the Sherrell J. Aston Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia.
Alongside his scholarly publications Tim is perhaps best known for his book Re-Direct: Changing the Stories We Live By, which was described by Malcolm Galdwell as a ‘masterpiece’ and by Professor Daniel Gilbert of Harvard University as the single most important psychology book ever written.
His prior book, Strangers to Ourselves was listed as one of the best ideas of the year in the New York Times magazine.
He has published numerous scholarly journals and books, primarily on the topic of the limits and sources of self-knowledge, and the implications of this work for changing behavior. In 2002, Wilson was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2020 and to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2009. In 2015 the Association for Psychological Science awarded Wilson the William James Fellow Award, to honor a “lifetime of significant intellectual contributions.”
