In our October xChange we’ll explore ‘What is the path to climate compatible living?’ with Mike Berners-Lee, Joan Fitzgerald and John Grant. Paul Skinner and Lauren Cooper will host the gathering.
Mike Berners-Lee is a leading expert in carbon metrics for organisations and the author of two books, There is No Planet B: A Handbook for the Make or Break Years, How Bad Are Bananas? The carbon footprint of everything, and co-author of The Burning Question. Mike is a professor at Lancaster University’s Environment Centre, where his research includes carbon metrics and sustainable food systems. He is also the founder of Small World Consulting (SWC), an associate company of Lancaster University, which works with organisations from small businesses to the biggest tech giants.
Joan Fitzgerald is a Professor of Urban and Public Policy at Northeastern University. She focuses on urban climate action and strategies for linking it to equity, economic development, and innovation. In her fourth book, Greenovation: Urban Leadership on Climate Change (Oxford Univ. Press, 2020), she argues that the climate strategies of too many cities represent random acts of greenness rather than integrated and aggressive action. She points to leading cities in North America and Europe and offers strategies for lagging cities to accelerate their action. She is working on her next book, Cities and the Struggle for Climate Justice. Fitzgerald blogs on inequality and urban climate action on Planetizen.
John Grant is a marketing strategist and the author of Greener Marketing and seven other books on brands, innovation, sustainability and new frontiers. Greener Marketing came out in August 2020 and was shortlisted for the Business Book Awards. John was co-founder and head of strategy at the values-led London creative hot shop St Luke's. And for many years John has advised clients on brands, marketing, behaviour change, strategy and innovation.
